Step 1 — Readiness Assessment


Start by auditing current receiving cycle steps, dock capacity, WMS capabilities, and staffing flexibility. Identify the SKUs that will drive the greatest impact if delayed. Evaluate vendor ASN quality and carton labeling consistency—clean inbound documentation is a multiplier for rapid receiving.

Step 2 — Process Design


Design a simplified receiving flow that removes non-essential steps for prioritized SKUs. Define explicit criteria for rapid receiving eligibility (velocity, promotion inclusion, replenishment priority). Create a staging layout and signage so staff can quickly route inbound pallets to the correct path.

Exception Management And Feedback


Define a fast exception loop: quarantined pallets, immediate notification to procurement or vendor, and a triage path for potential returns or urgent audits. Post-peak retrospectives should identify root causes for exceptions and feed changes back into vendor agreements, labeling requirements, and WMS logic.
