This workflow should define quarantine bays, re-labeling steps, and communication responsibilities between the supplier, carrier, and receiving team. For frequent offenders, implement corrective action plans and consider offering pre-labeling services to ensure compliance.


Practical Example — Enforcing GS1 Onboarding


A national retailer requires SSCC on all inbound pallets. The supplier provides sample labels that are verified for barcode grade and placement. On the first shipment, the retailer rejects pallets with unreadable codes and issues a chargeback. The supplier is then required to submit a corrective action plan and demonstrate label verification before resuming shipments. Over time, the supplier adopts verified thermal transfer printers and the percentage of rejected pallets drops to near zero.
