  • Farms for handling bales, pallets of seed or feed, and equipment parts.

How pallet forks work (simple explanation)


An operator positions the machine so the tines slide under the pallet or item, levels the forks to distribute weight evenly, lifts carefully while checking load stability, transports at low height for safety, and sets the load down smoothly. The machine’s hydraulics or lift mechanism does the heavy work while the forks are the interface that supports the load. Proper positioning and awareness of the load’s centre of gravity are key to safe operation.


Capacity and load center


Pallet forks are rated for a capacity at a specific load center — often 24 inches (600 mm) for forklifts. The load center is the distance from the carriage face to the centre of gravity of the load. As tine length increases or the centre of gravity moves forward, effective capacity decreases. For beginners, always check the rated capacity on the carriage and understand that overloading or extending loads beyond rated conditions is dangerous.
