Price ticketing cost is not a single line item on an invoice — it’s a composite of repeatable tasks and variable inputs. Labor time per unit, the type and quality of ticket stock or swing tags, applicator tools or machines, packaging impacts and necessary quality-control checks all contribute.   • Time-and-Materials: Bill actual labor hours plus pass-through material costs — useful for variable or bespoke ticketing runs.
  • Tiered Rates: Lower per-unit price above volume thresholds to reflect scale economies.
  • Project Pricing: Fixed fee for seasonal campaigns or returns processing where predictability is required.


Practical Example: Costing A Seasonal Batch


Assume you must ticket 5,000 T‑shirts where each takes 12 seconds to tag, tickets cost $0.03 each and labor fully burdened is $18/hour. Seconds per unit = 12s → 0.0033 hours. Labor per unit = 0.0033 × $18 ≈ $0.06. Material per unit = $0.03. Add a 2% rework allowance ($0.002), equipment amortization $0.005 and overhead allocation $0.01. Total ≈ $0.107 per unit, rounded to $0.11 when quoting to cover small variability.

  • Standardize Tickets: Use common ticket stock and layouts across SKUs to reduce handling time and mispicks.
  • Batch By SKU: Group identical items for continuous application rather than mixed SKU stations.
  • Invest Selectively In Tools: Hand applicators or semi-automatic machines can cut seconds off each unit; calculate payback on labor savings.
  • Train And Measure: Short training modules focused on ergonomics and correct placement reduce rework and injury risk.
  • Monitor Rework: Track root causes of rework — incorrect ticket, wrong placement or adhesive issues — and fix upstream.
