Amazon display ads used for remarketing, audience targeting, and product discovery on or off Amazon.

Overview

Amazon Sponsored Display

Amazon display ads used for remarketing, audience targeting, and product discovery on or off Amazon. These ads let sellers, vendors, and agencies promote individual SKUs or product lines across Amazon’s shopping surfaces and on third‑party sites and apps via Amazon’s display inventory.

Advertisers use Sponsored Display to re‑engage shoppers who viewed or bought products, reach audiences with similar shopping behavior, or place product ads on and off Amazon to drive discovery. The format includes product images, titles, and price information; placements can appear on product detail pages, the shopping results page, Amazon-owned properties, and programmatic publisher inventory off Amazon.

What The Feature Covers

Sponsored Display covers three practical capabilities: remarketing to past visitors, audience targeting based on shopping signals, and placement across Amazon and external sites. Remarketing uses page visits, views, and purchases to serve ads for the exact ASIN a shopper saw. Audience targeting supports interests such as category shoppers or views of competing ASINs. Off‑Amazon placements extend reach to publisher sites and apps using Amazon’s advertising network.

Why It Matters To Retailers And 3PLs

For sellers and vendors, Sponsored Display is a direct way to recover consideration and convert window shoppers without building separate creative or audience lists. Retailers can protect brand share by targeting competitor detail pages and redirect traffic to desired listings. 3PLs and fulfillment partners benefit indirectly — improved conversion and inventory velocity change stocking patterns and demand forecasting.

How Targeting Options Differ

  • Product Targeting: Targets shoppers on specific ASINs or categories, including competitor listings.
  • Audience Targeting: Reaches shoppers grouped by interest, previous views, or purchase behavior across Amazon.
  • Remarketing: Serves ads to users who viewed or interacted with your ASINs to drive repeat visits and conversions.

Pricing, Bidding, And Performance Metrics

Sponsored Display uses CPC (cost‑per‑click) bidding. Advertisers set bids at the campaign or ad level and control daily budgets. Key metrics include impressions, clicks, CTR, CPC, ACOS (Advertising Cost of Sale), and ROAS. Because placements include lower‑funnel (detail page) and discovery placements, conversion rates and CPCs can vary significantly between audiences and placements.

Practical Example

A third‑party seller of insulated mugs notices high page views but low conversion on one ASIN. The seller launches a Sponsored Display remarketing campaign targeting viewers of that ASIN with a slightly lower BID and a promotional message. Over four weeks the campaign lowers ACOS and increases conversions by bringing back shoppers who hesitated the first time.

Tips For Better Results

  • Use Product Targeting For Competitors: Target competitor detail pages to capture consideration from shoppers comparing similar items.
  • Segment Campaigns: Separate remarketing from prospecting (audience) campaigns — each has different CPA goals.
  • Monitor Placements: Review on‑ and off‑Amazon placement performance and adjust bids by placement or audience.
  • Test Creative And Price: Small changes to imagery, bullet points, or price/offer can materially affect click conversion on Amazon placements.

In short, the Amazon Sponsored Display capability gives sellers and vendors a flexible display tool for remarketing, audience targeting, and expanding product discovery both on Amazon and across external publisher inventory. Used alongside Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands, it helps fill gaps in the funnel — from discovery to conversion — while allowing granular control over audiences, placements, and bidding.
