A strong MOQ negotiation does not simply ask the supplier to lower the number. It structures the agreement around volume tiers, forecast commitments, order frequency, payment terms, production constraints, and exception rules. Instead, the buyer negotiates a first-order waiver for 3,000 units at $3.65 each, a second tier of 5,000 units at $3.40, and a 10,000-unit tier at $3.20 once demand is proven. The buyer also commits to a non-binding six-month forecast and agrees to use the supplier's standard carton design for the first run. If sales exceed targets, the second order moves to the 5,000-unit tier.
This structure gives the supplier a path to higher production volume and gives the buyer a controlled launch. The buyer pays more per unit on the first order, but avoids overbuying and preserves cash for marketing, fulfillment, and replenishment.
