Amazon Sponsored Brands

Definition

Amazon ads that promote a brand, headline, store, or collection of products.

Overview

Amazon Sponsored Brands are Amazon ads that promote a brand, headline, store, or collection of products. These ads appear in high-visibility placements on Amazon — above search results, at the top of category pages, and on product detail pages — and combine creative elements (brand logo, custom headline) with product tiles or a link to a Store or landing page.

Sellers and vendors use Sponsored Brands to build awareness, drive branded search, and move shoppers to a curated set of SKUs rather than a single product. The format supports both product discovery and demand capture: shoppers who see a Sponsored Brand may click the logo or headline to visit a store page or select a product tile to go to a product detail page.

How The Format Works

Sponsored Brands operate on an auction-based CPC (cost-per-click) model. Campaign builders select targeting (keywords or product targeting), set bids, and choose ad creative. When a shopper’s query or context matches the targeting, Amazon runs the auction and displays the winning ad in available placements. Advertisers pay only when shoppers click the ad.

  • Creative Components: Brand logo, headline (up to recommended character limits), and product tiles or a store link.
  • Targeting Options: Keyword targeting, product-targeting (ASINs, categories), and audience-based options in some markets.
  • Bidding Model: CPC; bids determine eligibility in auctions alongside relevance and ad quality.

Why Brands Use Sponsored Brands

Sponsored Brands are designed to raise brand visibility inside Amazon’s shopping experience. Compared with single-SKU ads, they let brands show a portfolio, share a headline message, and send traffic to a Store or curated collection. That matters when you want repeat purchase, cross-sell, or to protect branded search from competitors.

Typical Campaign Objectives

  • Brand Awareness: Capture top-of-search real estate to increase recognition and branded queries.
  • Product Discovery: Introduce buyers to complementary SKUs within a single creative unit.
  • Store Traffic: Drive shoppers to an Amazon Store landing page for richer merchandising.

How Performance Is Measured

Core KPIs are clicks, click-through rate (CTR), cost per click (CPC), and advertising cost of sales (ACoS). For brand-oriented objectives, impressions and new-to-brand metrics (when available) are also important because they show reach and whether the campaign is acquiring new customers.

How It Differs From Other Amazon Ads

Sponsored Brands are distinct from Sponsored Products (single-SKU ads) and Sponsored Display (audience/retargeting). They emphasize brand messaging and multi-SKU promotion rather than only product-level conversion. Their placements are often higher-funnel, though they still drive direct product clicks.

Practical Example

A sporting goods brand launches a Sponsored Brands campaign targeting “running shoes” and “trail running shoes.” The ad shows the brand logo, a headline like “Lightweight Trail Running — Shop Collection,” and three product tiles (trail shoe, socks, hydration belt). Clicks go to the brand’s Amazon Store collection where cross-sells and bulk discounts increase average order value.

Tips For Better Results

  • Match Creative To Intent: Use headlines that match searcher intent (e.g., “Waterproof Hikers” for outdoor categories).
  • Use Store Pages: If you have multiple SKUs, send traffic to an optimized Store to boost time-on-site and cross-sell.
  • Optimize Targeting: Combine broad keyword discovery with precise product-targeting to protect branded terms.
  • Measure Lift: Track branded search volume and new-to-brand metrics to quantify awareness gains.

In short, the Amazon Sponsored Brands format is a multi-SKU, brand-forward advertising unit that balances discovery and conversion. It’s best used when you want to showcase a range of products, reinforce brand messaging, or funnel shoppers into a branded shopping experience on Amazon.
