Why Organizations Perform Physical Inventory
Organizations run physical inventory for accuracy, compliance, and operational control. Accounting standards or auditors often require a periodic wall-to-wall count to support financial statements. Operationally, a full count exposes issues like systematic mis-picks, receiving errors, misplaced stock, or theft that incremental processes may miss. Retailers, manufacturers, and 3PLs also use the results to reset reorder points and improve demand planning.

- System Preparation: Lock or freeze inventory transactions in the WMS as of a cut-off to avoid splits between counted and post-count movements.

- Counting: Execute counts (often in teams of two) using scanners, paper sheets, or mobile devices depending on the setup.
