Inbound FTL affects facility layout, labor scheduling, and inventory flow. A single trailer can deliver hundreds of SKUs or palletized bulk stock that must either be cross-docked, put away, or staged for pick. Payment for the linehaul is contractually set between shipper and carrier. The receiving site may assess detention fees if loading/unloading exceeds agreed free time and the carrier may charge additional fees per contract terms.

A consumer electronics supplier ships a full truck of 480 palletized units to a retailer's distribution center. The supplier books the carrier and sends a pre-alert with pallet counts and master carton SKUs. The DC assigns a dock, schedules two fork drivers for a two-hour unload window, and uses the WMS to reserve bin space for immediate put-away of fast-moving SKUs. Because of this coordination the truck turn time is 90 minutes, damage is minimal, and the retailer avoids receiving congestion at peak hours.
