Product Information Management is the process or software used to manage product data, descriptions, images, attributes, and channel-specific content. A PIM centralizes, enriches, validates and syndicates product information so teams across merchandising, ecommerce, marketing, operations and trading partners publish consistent product details to websites, marketplaces, ERP systems and catalogs.
PIM isn’t simply a digital file cabinet. It enforces structure (attributes and taxonomies), validates formats (dimensions, weights, GTINs), and applies business rules (required fields per channel). Typical datasets include titles, long and short descriptions, specifications, technical sheets, multiple images, marketing assets, price lists, translations and channel mappings. Modern PIMs also track change history and feed content to downstream systems via APIs or export templates.

PIM focuses specifically on product content quality, enrichment, and channel-ready formatting.
