Two-fold solution addresses AutomationDirect’s growth in sales and SKUs
AutomationDirect, a supplier of automation components and industrial control products, has selected TGW Logistics to further automate their Cumming, Georgia warehouse. This expansion aims to streamline operations in response to increased sales and a growing number of SKUs while maintaining fast two-day shipping for customers.
Highly Automated Addition and Expansion
In 2019, AutomationDirect initially collaborated with TGW Logistics to implement mini-load and pallet crane aisles for optimized receiving and storage. With continued growth in sales and SKUs, and anticipating a decade of expansion, AutomationDirect is once again enhancing its operations with TGW’s help.
TGW will be implementing its FlashPick system for rapid goods-to-person order fulfillment. The system will integrate with existing mini-load aisles used for storage and consist of two Stingray shuttle aisles and four ergonomic PickCenter One workstations. This will allow AutomationDirect to efficiently meet increasing sales demands and handle future SKU growth while maintaining their two-day shipping promise—all within a single eight-hour shift.
Additionally, TGW will be expanding AutomationDirect’s pallet inventory by installing a new pallet crane aisle and conveyor system to facilitate smoother pallet movement. This expansion builds on the successful groundwork laid in 2019.
The combined solution not only optimizes the distribution center’s fulfillment and pallet handling operations but also enhances the facility’s footprint to allow future phases that could double its automation and throughput capacity.
Full Orchestration Software
The new automation upgrades include TGW’s warehouse software, WERX, which will take over from the existing system to manage the warehouse’s operations. WERX will oversee all aspects of the FlashPick system, pallet crane, and conveyor, managing cycle counts and coordinating replenishment activities between the inbound mini-loads and shuttles. This will prevent potential delays or stoppages and ensure efficient picking during operational hours.
Long-Term Partnership
Since 2013, TGW Logistics has been a trusted partner of AutomationDirect, collaborating across multiple facilities to implement cutting-edge automation solutions. Mark Hermann, Logistics Team Captain at AutomationDirect, commented on the partnership, stating, “TGW Logistics continues to prove themselves, not only with their technology, but with their ability to develop automation solutions that fit our current needs and future growth.”
The new automation solution is expected to be implemented during ongoing operations and is slated to go live in August 2026.
