Program Provides Meaningful Jobs and Career Development Opportunities for Adults with Autism
Bettaway Supply Chain Services is celebrating its third year of partnership with We Make - Autism at Work, a Pennington-based non-profit, aimed at providing adults on the autism spectrum with meaningful jobs and career development opportunities. The collaboration has successfully engaged 150 families and continues to deliver impressive results, making a lasting impact on the community.
Achieving Impressive Outcomes in Employment for Adults with Autism
Since its launch in 2023, the We Make - Bettaway Program has created job opportunities for adults with autism, designed specifically to leverage their unique skills. The program has seen remarkable success, retaining 97% of its graduates as employees. These individuals are excelling in roles such as packing assortments of beverage products and managing shrink-wrapping lines. Over the past year, they’ve met productivity goals with over 99% accuracy, fulfilling tens of thousands of cases.
John Vaccaro, President of Bettaway, highlighted the positive environment the program creates:
"We watched these individuals gain confidence in their abilities, experiencing joy in doing a job well and being recognized for it. It’s about more than productivity; it’s about giving these individuals a sense of accomplishment."
Commitment to Expanding the Program
Bettaway plans to expand the program in the coming year, continuing its commitment to social equity and workforce development. Moe Siddiqu, founding executive director of We Make, emphasized the positive community impact:
"The Bettaway team’s commitment has been a huge benefit to Middlesex County, providing access to sustainable job opportunities for the autism and IDD communities."
As the program enters its third year, both organizations aim to build on their success, offering mentorship opportunities to new program participants and paving the way for a more inclusive workforce. Bettaway’s collaboration with We Make exemplifies how businesses can support social inclusion while addressing critical employment gaps within the autism community.
