Craters & Freighters Leads Sustainable Shipping Efforts with Measurable Environmental Impact
Craters & Freighters is advancing sustainable logistics through impactful environmental initiatives, including a reforestation project in Michigan’s forests. Partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and USDA Forest Service, the company planted 10,000 trees to help mitigate climate change, reduce water runoff, and restore habitats for local wildlife, such as the endangered Kirtland’s warbler. These efforts exemplify Craters & Freighters’ commitment to sustainable business practices that benefit both the environment and the communities it serves.

Craters & Freighters Leads Sustainable Shipping Efforts
Craters & Freighters, a leader in specialty freight solutions, has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility through innovative shipping and packaging practices aimed at reducing its environmental footprint. Partnering with the Arbor Day Foundation and other key organizations, the company has taken significant steps in sustainability, contributing to forest restoration, wildlife support, and carbon reduction.
Reforestation and Environmental Impact
In 2023, Craters & Freighters partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and the USDA Forest Service to restore Michigan’s state and national forests. The company funded the planting of 10,000 red and jack pine trees across 11 acres of land previously logged in the late 1800s. This reforestation initiative serves multiple environmental purposes:
- Water Runoff Reduction: Prevented 356,671 gallons of water runoff, helping mitigate soil erosion and water pollution.
- Air Purification: Reduced 9.84 tons of air pollution through the trees' natural ability to absorb pollutants.
- Carbon Sequestration: Sequestered or avoided 1,165 metric tons of CO₂, contributing to climate change mitigation over the next 40 years.
Supporting Wildlife and Biodiversity
Craters & Freighters’ reforestation efforts go beyond environmental benefits, providing essential habitats for local wildlife, including the endangered Kirtland’s warbler. The restoration of these habitats also supports other species, such as deer, turkey, and grouse, ensuring a thriving biodiversity in Michigan’s forests.
Commitment to a Sustainable Future
Looking forward, Craters & Freighters aims to deepen its environmental impact by expanding reforestation projects and adopting eco-friendly shipping practices. “Sustainability is a collective effort,” says Dan Lambe, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. "We’re happy to collaborate with partners like Craters & Freighters to support our world’s most critical ecosystems."
Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Golden, Colorado, Craters & Freighters continues to lead by example, implementing sustainability measures that inspire positive change across the logistics industry and beyond.
