DHL Supply Chain has expanded its U.S. presence with the acquisition of IDS Fulfillment, a specialist in e-commerce fulfillment and retail distribution. The deal adds more than 1.3 million square feet of warehouse and distribution capacity across Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, and Plainfield, Indiana, where IDS is headquartered.

What DHL bought—and why it matters

With the acquisition, IDS customers gain access to DHL’s global infrastructure and advanced logistics technology while keeping operations familiar: DHL confirmed that all IDS facilities will continue operating under their existing leadership. This ensures continuity for merchants while integrating them into DHL’s broader U.S. network.

    Aligning with Strategy 2030

The move is part of DHL’s long-term Strategy 2030, which emphasizes building scalable e-commerce capabilities for small and mid-sized brands. Earlier this year, DHL acquired Inmar’s reverse logistics business, positioning itself as one of the largest providers of returns management in North America. Pairing that acquisition with IDS strengthens DHL’s end-to-end e-commerce ecosystem—forward fulfillment plus reverse logistics.

    Benefits for IDS customers

For IDS clients—many of whom are fast-growing DTC brands—joining DHL’s network means broader geographic reach, improved speed-to-customer, and access to sophisticated data analytics. Reporting from Supply Chain Dive emphasized that DHL’s scale allows IDS customers to better compete during peak season surges, while still enjoying the customer service and expertise of their existing teams.
