New Partnership Paves the Way for a Greener Future in Freight
Freightera, Canada’s rapidly growing freight marketplace, has announced a new partnership with Purolator, a leading provider of integrated freight, package, and logistics solutions. This collaboration aims to accelerate the shift to zero-emission freight shipping across Canada, with Purolator’s services now available through the Freightera platform.
Driving the Transition to Zero-Emission Shipping
Freightera is known for its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by directing freight to carriers with the lowest emissions. This new partnership with Purolator aligns with Freightera’s goal of making sustainable transport options more accessible to shippers. According to Eric Beckwitt,
Freightera CEO, “Purolator has been a leader and early adopter of zero-emission electric trucks for first- and last-mile service in Canada’s three major urban areas, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Freightera has been an early and tireless advocate for a practical, efficient transition to lower- and then zero-emission transport, giving shippers a choice and making lower emission the best cost option on every possible lane.”
Purolator’s Commitment to a Green Future
Purolator has set ambitious environmental sustainability goals, aiming to become Canada’s greenest courier. The company is heavily investing in alternative fuel vehicles and pioneering low-carbon technologies to meet its interim targets and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Cindy Bailey, Purolator’s Corporate Sustainability Officer, emphasized the significance of the partnership with Freightera: “We’re pleased to partner with Freightera to include our services on their platform. This is another example of the industry working collectively together towards our shared goals of a more sustainable future.”
Addressing Canada's Freight Emissions Challenge
Despite a decrease in Canada’s overall carbon dioxide equivalent emissions of 7.1% from 2005 to 2022, emissions from freight transport have surged. Between 2005 and 2019, freight transport emissions increased by 34.9%, and a report from the Pembina Institute highlights a 100% growth in these emissions from 1990 to 2024. Freightera’s efforts to make lower-emission options more accessible have shown promise, with many of its shippers significantly reducing their carbon footprint. For example, in 2022, 149 shippers using Freightera's platform reduced their emissions by 50% or more, while 882 companies achieved reductions of 20% or more.
