HD Barcode LLC Unveils Secure HD Food Safety Code for Tracking Food from Farm to Reseller
HD Barcode LLC has launched the HD Food Safety Code, a secure, high-density 2D code designed to track food from farm to reseller without the need for an online database. This patented solution meets upcoming FDA regulations, which will require a complete history of food origins for items with annual sales above $250,000. Unlike traditional QR codes, the HD Food Safety Code stores significantly more data directly within an encrypted code, reducing data entry times and preventing unauthorized access. It also supports customs and border patrol operations by enabling authentication of suppliers.

A New Standard in Food Safety Data
HD Barcode LLC has introduced the HD Food Safety Code, a patented 2D code designed to securely track food items from their point of origin to resellers without relying on an online database or the Internet. The newly launched high-density code aims to protect farmers and enhance food safety compliance in the supply chain.
Complying with FDA Regulations by 2026
With new regulations set to take effect in 2026, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will require farmers, processors, distributors, and resellers—including restaurants—to maintain and provide a comprehensive history of food origins. This requirement applies to all food items under FDA guidelines with sales exceeding $250,000 annually. Unlike traditional QR codes that depend on cloud-based storage, the HD Food Safety Code securely stores all essential data directly within the code itself, providing up to 225 times more data capacity.
“A Memory Stick on Paper”
The HD Food Safety Code allows each step in the supply chain to scan and add data to the existing code, creating a process similar to blockchain but without the need for an Internet connection. This method reduces data entry time and mitigates risks of compromised or altered data, as each farm and supplier is uniquely authorized to generate and print their codes. A professor described the technology as “a memory stick on paper,” emphasizing the substantial storage capability embedded within each code.
Enhanced Security for Customs and Border Patrol
HD Barcode LLC’s new system also supports Customs and Border Patrol by enabling instant authentication of food suppliers. Only authorized suppliers can create and print these secure codes, ensuring accurate and trusted information at all stages of the supply chain.
The HD Food Safety Code represents a significant step toward secure, offline, and efficient food traceability, offering a solution to future FDA compliance requirements.
