Stellar Lifestyle and Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) are launching Singapore’s first postal collection pilot via SMRT-operated trains, starting June 25, as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore deploying more postal service points near MRT stations.

A New Approach to Postal Collection

For the first time, SingPost will utilize MRT trains for postal collection, complementing its existing vehicle fleet. This pilot aims to evaluate the operational cost efficiencies and carbon emission savings of using MRT trains to collect postal items.

    Operational Details

The three-month pilot will involve pre-selected Mail Ambassadors who will transport postal items from Tampines and Raffles Place MRT stations to SingPost’s sorting facility near Paya Lebar MRT station daily. These collections will occur during off-peak hours, from 11 am to 2 pm, on the East-West Line. Up to two Mail Ambassadors, easily identifiable in their SingPost uniforms, will ride in familiar MRT cabins to conduct the collections.

    Commitment to Sustainability

Tony Heng, President of Stellar Lifestyle, emphasized the alignment with SMRT’s vision of promoting a sustainable way of living and operating businesses. He expressed excitement about the partnership with SingPost, leveraging the extensive train network to enrich the commuter experience and drive positive change in the communities they serve.

    Enhanced Urban Logistics

Shahrin Abdol Salam, Chief Executive Officer of SingPost, highlighted the benefits of the collaboration in facilitating urban logistics in Singapore. The partnership with Stellar Lifestyle aims to bring convenience to consumers and SMEs by strategically situating postal service points along key transportation nodes, seamlessly integrating postal services into daily routines.

    Expansion Plans

In March 2024, SingPost opened its first standalone POPStop at Tampines MRT station, providing commuters with a convenient location for parcel drop-offs and returns. Building on this initiative, SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle plan to expand the trial to additional train stations across other SMRT-operated lines if the pilot proves successful. Future plans also include identifying new locations for POPStops and service points to further enhance convenience for local communities.

    Towards a Progressive Singapore

This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step towards integrating postal services with Singapore’s extensive transportation network. It offers consumers greater convenience while contributing to a more sustainable urban logistics ecosystem. The collaboration between SingPost and Stellar Lifestyle showcases a commitment to innovation and a progressive Singapore.
