Stord Acquires AMS Fulfillment, Adding More Than 1 Million Square Feet to Network
Stord has acquired AMS Fulfillment in the largest acquisition in Stord’s history, adding more than 1 million square feet of fulfillment capacity and more than 10 million annual orders to its network.
The acquisition expands Stord’s presence across key East and West Coast logistics markets, including the Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia metro areas. Following the deal, Stord says its global fulfillment network now spans more than 100 locations.
AMS Fulfillment is a third-party logistics provider specializing in outsourced logistics and complex fulfillment services for consumer brands, particularly in beauty, cosmetics, apparel, footwear, accessories and other high-velocity direct-to-consumer categories.
The transaction represents another significant step in Stord’s expansion as the company continues investing in fulfillment infrastructure, technology, robotics and artificial intelligence.
More Than 10 Million Annual Orders Join Stord’s Network
AMS Fulfillment processes more than 10 million orders annually for consumer brands and retailers.
By bringing those operations onto Stord’s platform, the acquisition adds substantial fulfillment volume while expanding Stord’s warehouse footprint by more than 1 million square feet.
According to the company’s October 21 announcement, Stord now processes more than $15 billion in gross merchandise value annually for more than 1,000 brands.
The company says packages moving through its network reach roughly one in four U.S. households each year.
Stord’s fulfillment network also generates more than 8 billion data points annually, which the company is increasingly using to support its AI and warehouse automation initiatives.
Expanding in Major U.S. Logistics Markets
The acquisition strengthens Stord’s presence in several important distribution markets, including Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Philadelphia.
The additional warehouse capacity gives Stord greater ability to position inventory near major population centers while supporting brands seeking faster delivery across multiple U.S. regions.
Following the acquisition, Stord says its network now includes more than 100 fulfillment locations worldwide.
For AMS customers, the deal is also expected to provide access over time to Stord’s broader fulfillment network, parcel program and technology platform.
AMS Adds Specialized DTC Fulfillment Capabilities
AMS Fulfillment has provided outsourced logistics services for more than 20 years.
The company offers order management, warehouse and inventory management, reverse logistics and value-added fulfillment services for fast-growing consumer product companies.
AMS has developed particular expertise supporting premium brands in beauty, cosmetics, apparel, footwear and accessories, categories where fulfillment requirements can extend well beyond traditional pick-and-pack operations.
Some AMS facilities already operate automated put walls and sortation systems, adding existing automation infrastructure to Stord’s growing network.
Stord said that capacity will complement investments being made through Stord Labs, its dedicated robotics deployment and logistics data operation.
Stord Continues to Invest in Fulfillment, Robotics and AI
The acquisition follows a year of significant investment for Stord.
Earlier in October, the company announced a $400 million credit facility led by Citi and joined by other major financial institutions.
Stord said the capital would support continued expansion of its fulfillment network along with investments in robotics and artificial intelligence.
That followed a $250 million Series F funding round announced in May at a $3 billion valuation.
Stord launched Stord Labs alongside the Series F to accelerate the deployment of robotics, automation and AI across its fulfillment operations.
The company says it has grown approximately tenfold over the past four years.
AMS Becomes Stord’s Twelfth Acquisition
AMS Fulfillment represents Stord’s twelfth acquisition and continues a strategy of expanding its physical fulfillment network through both organic investment and acquisitions.
Previous deals have included Shipwire from CMA CGM, Ware2Go from UPS and the ecommerce fulfillment operations of Pitney Bowes.
Those acquisitions have allowed Stord to rapidly increase its warehouse coverage, customer base and order volume while bringing more fulfillment activity onto its technology platform.
The addition of AMS further increases that scale while providing Stord with deeper capabilities serving premium and high-growth consumer brands.
For Stord, the acquisition arrives just ahead of peak shipping season and gives the company additional warehouse capacity, automation infrastructure and order volume as it continues building out its national and international fulfillment network.
