Torc Robotics Discusses the Future of Autonomous Trucking at Manifest 2025
The future of autonomous trucking took center stage at Manifest 2025, where Bill Carlin, CMO of Racklify, met with Andrew Culhane, Chief Commercial Officer of Torc Robotics, to discuss the role of self-driving trucks in modern logistics. The conversation, which took place atop a 53-foot tractor-trailer, highlighted the growing impact of AI-driven trucking solutions on the supply chain.
Autonomous Trucks: A Game Changer for Logistics
Autonomous trucking has rapidly evolved in recent years, with major players investing heavily in AI, machine learning, and sensor technology to enhance efficiency and safety. The technology is designed to address driver shortages, reduce fuel consumption, and improve long-haul freight transportation. Torc Robotics, a subsidiary of Daimler Truck, is at the forefront of this transformation, developing self-driving solutions specifically for commercial trucking.
Culhane emphasized that autonomous trucks are not replacing traditional trucking but rather complementing it. “We think part of the future is autonomous,” he stated, adding that self-driving trucks fit within a broader hub-to-hub logistics model, which allows human drivers to handle first- and last-mile deliveries while autonomous trucks manage the long stretches of highway travel.
Torc’s Expansion and Vision
During the interview, Culhane announced Torc’s latest milestone: the launch of a new operations center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This facility will enable the company to expand real-world testing on public roads, with human drivers currently overseeing the system as they work toward full autonomy.
“Our goal is to prove to the industry that autonomous trucks are safe, reliable, and efficient,” Culhane said. By integrating into existing supply chains, these AI-powered trucks aim to increase capacity, reduce delays, and optimize fuel efficiency.
The Road Ahead for Autonomous Trucking
While the promise of autonomous trucking is significant, challenges remain, including regulatory hurdles, public perception, and infrastructure adaptation. However, with companies like Torc Robotics pioneering AI-driven logistics, the industry is steadily moving toward widespread adoption.
As Manifest 2025 continues to showcase cutting-edge supply chain technology, autonomous trucking remains one of the most talked-about innovations, poised to reshape freight transportation in the years ahead.
