USPS Launches “Forever” SpongeBob SquarePants Stamps This Summer
The U.S. Postal Service is making waves with the release of a new sheet of SpongeBob SquarePants Forever® stamps, available starting August 1, 2025, both online at the USPS Postal Store and at post offices nationwide.
A Peek Under the Sea: What’s in the Collection?
The pane includes four unique stamp designs:
- Two playful close-ups of SpongeBob himself
- A group shot with Patrick, Sandy, Plankton, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Gary, and SpongeBob in full Bikini Bottom glory
- A whimsical scene with SpongeBob and Patrick skipping along the sea floor
According to Fast Company, SpongeBob’s signature square shape made him a natural fit for stamp design. The stamp artwork was designed by longtime USPS art director Greg Breeding, using official artwork licensed from Nickelodeon, and balances nostalgia with bold, collectible flair.
Each stamp is a Forever stamp, currently valued at 78¢, and will remain valid for first-class mail regardless of future price changes. They’re sold in panes of 16 (four of each design) for $12.48, as listed on the USPS website.
Launch Party in Times Square
To mark the occasion, USPS will host a first-day-of-issue ceremony in the heart of New York City:
- Location: Father Duffy Square, Times Square
- Date: August 1, 2025
- Time: 8–10 a.m. EDT
The event is free and open to the public, and Greg Breeding is expected to attend and sign autographs.
According to USA Today, the stamps are part of USPS’s broader effort to attract younger audiences and pop culture collectors. With past releases featuring Star Wars, Pixar, and Looney Tunes, SpongeBob’s inclusion adds a fresh, comedic touch to the lineup.
Why SpongeBob?
Since its debut in 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has become one of the most recognizable animated properties in television history. The show has spawned multiple movies, viral memes, theme park rides, and even its own custom Pantone color.
According to StampsForever.com, the stamps celebrate SpongeBob’s enduring legacy and his multigenerational fanbase. It’s also smart timing: a new film, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, is set to hit theaters in December 2025, making this an ideal lead-up for fans and collectors alike.
Where to Buy
After launch, the stamps will be available through multiple channels:
- store.usps.com
- By phone at 844-737-7826
- At local Post Office locations
- Through approved resellers like StampsForever
For bulk purchases or gift bundles, additional options are expected to become available through Amazon and licensed merchandise vendors.
Stamp Design Highlights
As noted by Fast Company, Breeding leaned into the playful nature of the characters, choosing bold colors, expressive faces, and minimal text to make each stamp stand out. It’s not his first time blending pop culture with postal design—Breeding has also created stamps for the Star Wars droids, The Peanuts Gang, and Buzz Lightyear.
The simplicity of the layout, coupled with the instantly recognizable yellow sponge, makes this sheet one of the most eye-catching of 2025.
