Melbourne’s boutique, women-founded 3PL Virago Logistics has struck a strategic partnership with New Zealand’s to open the door to trans-Tasman expansion and broader Pacific distribution. The alliance is a signal that Virago is gearing up to support its clients far beyond Australia’s shores.

From Boutique Beginnings to Cross-Border Ambition

Virago was launched in 2021 by Em Frost and Jessica Breakwell to solve a familiar problem: scaling logistics for their own e-commerce ventures. Over time, the business pivoted to serve other boutique brands, leveraging its e-commerce roots to offer tailored fulfilment, warehousing, and shipping solutions.

According to Virago’s site, the team emphasizes a “boutique third-party logistics made by brands, for brands” approach. They position themselves not just as a back-end fulfilment provider, but as a partner that understands how small-to-medium brands think, especially in digital and e-commerce contexts. Virago has already been recognized with awards like the Australian Achiever Awards in the transport and logistics space.

What Pacificomm Brings to the Table

Pacificomm, headquartered in Auckland, operates national warehousing, distribution, freight, and logistics services across New Zealand and has capabilities for international freight and customs handling. Its warehousing arm offers co-packing, inventory management, flexible storage, pick & pack, and smooth transitions for clients migrating between providers. On the logistics front, Pacificomm handles both inbound and outbound freight, international shipments, transportation management, and regulatory compliance.

Their network includes facilities in Auckland, Christchurch, and even a presence in Melbourne. This gives Virago immediate access to ground in New Zealand, with infrastructure ready for cross-border trade.

    How the Partnership Will Operate

Under the deal, Virago is consolidating its three Cheltenham warehouses in Melbourne into a larger facility nearby—part of scaling locally to support its clients into NZ. In parallel, Virago will tap into Pacificomm’s warehousing in Auckland and Christchurch, enabling its clients to fulfil orders in New Zealand with lower transit times and duties.

By plugging into Pacificomm’s existing freight, legal, commercial, back-office, and global forwarding capabilities, Virago will be able to deliver “horsepower” that complements its boutique model. In other words: scale without losing identity.

For Virago’s clientele (which number 30+ brands), this means they can now ask Virago: “Can you do NZ distribution?” and get a yes, with infrastructure backing.

Why This Matters in the 3PL Landscape

This partnership is an example of boutique logistics providers teaming up with established networks to get scale while retaining flexibility. For brands, it means smoother expansion into new markets without having to juggle multiple logistics partners or build their own infrastructure from scratch.

For Virago, it’s a pivotal moment. Backed by Pacificomm, it can offer clients access to Pacific and NZ markets. For Pacificomm, it gains a relationship with a fast-moving, entrepreneurial 3PL with strong client loyalty. The alignment suggests mutual upside in tapping the growing e-commerce flows across the Tasman and into the Pacific Islands.
