Hodges Warehouse & Logistics

Montgomery, Alabama, United States

In the early 1970’s when the cattle market – which had been the Hodges family’s stock in trade for over a century – began to decline, the company refocused its efforts on investing in real estate. This led to the development of Hodges Warehouse and Logistics, providing superior Alabama third-party warehousing and logistics services for clients of all sizes across the Southeast. Over the last 30 years, the acquisition of more than 5 million square feet of real estate taught us many valuable lessons about finding the right space in the right place. Lessons that guide our real estate services today – and it’s not just “location, location, location.” The factors that make one place the right place vary not just from property to property, but with each individual buyers needs and desires. As a privately owned family real estate company, helping you make the right choice is not a responsibility we take lightly, At Hodges Real Estate, we understand that magnitude of buying and selling your home, because we’ve been there, both as a company and as a family, with much at stake in the decisions we made. MAF Expedited

Montgomery, Alabama, United States

Montgomery Air Freight, Inc. dba MAF Expedited is a family owned business that over time has grown to be the Southeast Region’s largest heavyweight air freight trucking operation. Our operations began with the purchase of Harbin Freight Lines in 1997. Harbin Freight Lines had been in business since 1938 operating out of Luverne, AL. In 1998 our operations acquired Montgomery Air Freight, Inc. with locations in Montgomery and Dothan since 1972. Later in 1998, all operations for Harbin Freight and Montgomery Air Freight were moved to Montgomery, AL with operations being housed in one location. In the year 2000 expansion occurred with the opening of locations in Birmingham, AL (BHM Express) and Huntsville, AL. In 2002, Montgomery Air Freight was named small business of the year by the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce. In 2010 Montgomery Air Freight consolidated all the companies under one umbrella and rebranded as MAF Expedited. In January of 2015, further expansion occurred with the acquisition of Gulf Coast Express which included locations in Pensacola, FL, Mobile, AL, and Knoxville, TN bringing the total number of terminals to six. This acquisition expanded our geographical footprint and allowed MAF Expedited to expand its services for current customers while also allowing us to serve new customers in our new markets. In April of 2016, MAF completed another acquisition of Huntsville Air Freight which supplemented the current Huntsville Terminal allowing us to take on additional freight and customers. In August of 2017 MAF added another terminal in the Chattanooga market which fit perfectly into our expanding geographical footprint. The Chattanooga terminal is another great addition to our company and complements our existing operations in Huntsville and Knoxville given the location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Key KPIs include OTIF (on-time in-full), pick-and-pack accuracy, order cycle time, inventory accuracy, dock-to-stock lead time, returns processing time, and chargeback frequency. Assess reporting cadence, samples of historical SLA performance, and how the 3PL agrees to remediate missed targets.

Prioritize proximity to main interstates and parcel carrier hubs, dock door count, warehouse clear height, racking density, cross-dock capability, available automation, local labor pool, and access to rail or air freight. These factors affect handling efficiency, carrier choice, and transit zones for customers.

Evaluate WMS feature set, API and EDI support, real-time inventory visibility, exception management, order routing rules, and sandbox/testing environments. Confirm data formats, latency, transaction costs, and whether the 3PL supports Shopify, major marketplaces, or your ERP for seamless fulfillment orchestration.

Onboarding commonly spans 6–12 weeks: discovery and SLA definition, systems integration and EDI/API testing, SKU setup and labeling, test orders and cycle counts, and contingency planning. Plan early capacity reservations, peak staffing schedules, and joint playbooks for returns and surges.

Shared warehousing lowers fixed costs and offers rapid entry and seasonal flexibility, but may limit control over slotting and custom processes. Dedicated space increases control, branding, and specialized workflows but requires higher minimums. Choose based on SKU complexity, forecast accuracy, and capital tolerance.
