Proximity to major highways reduces line-haul time and cost; choose 3PLs with multiple carrier contracts, consolidation capabilities, and efficient hub transfers to lower per-shipment rates and improve on-time performance. Factor in cross-border fees and last-mile density when modeling landed cost.

Contract KPIs should include order accuracy rate, outbound lead time, inventory accuracy, on-time ship rate, damage rates, and reporting cadence for exceptions. Include remedies or credits for missed SLAs and defined audit schedules for inventory reconciliation.

Compare total cost per pallet/unit (rent, handling, labor), access to carrier networks, expansion potential, workforce availability and wage trends, utility and security infrastructure, and any local incentives or regulatory considerations that affect operating expense.
