Also validate reverse-logistics processes and SLAs for order accuracy and returns handling.

Compare landed costs including inbound handling, storage by cube or pallet, pick-and-pack labor rates, shipping fuel surcharges, kitting or value-add fees, and returns processing. Request sample monthly invoices and run a cost-to-serve model across representative SKUs and order profiles.

Confirm temperature range monitoring, backup power, validated HVAC systems, traceable inventory controls, GMP or relevant certifications, documented SOPs for recalls, and staff training records. Inspect segregation options for allergens or hazardous materials and verify customs brokerage capabilities if applicable.

Look for proximity to express carriers, regional cross-docks, major highways, and urban delivery corridors. Shorter first-mile/last-mile distances reduce transit times and costs. Also evaluate local carrier partnerships, parcel contract rates, and micro-fulfillment or pick-up point availability.

Verify API or EDI capabilities for order, inventory, and shipment events; availability of a configurable WMS; dashboard and reporting tools; and sample integration timelines. Request references that used similar platforms and test transaction samples for accuracy and latency.
