Carrier access and multimodal links directly affect routing flexibility and lead times. A site with strong road and rail connectivity enables consolidated inbound flows, zone-skipping to reduce parcel costs, and faster transfer to regional carriers. Evaluate proximity to major freight corridors, frequency of carrier services, and handling times to estimate last-mile cost and predictability.

Include clear KPIs (OTIF, pick accuracy, returns processing time, inventory accuracy), capacity and surge commitments, service credits for missed SLAs, transparent rate tables for storage and labor, and exit terms. Require WMS/API or EDI integration, real-time reporting, security and audit controls, and a documented contingency plan for peak events.
