I left school at 16, juggled a few jobs, and eventually found myself volunteering (read: boldly throwing myself into the unknown) to open a satellite office in Northern France for a UK manufacturer. GCSE French in hand and a wildly optimistic attitude, I set off – and surprise! I fell head over heels for the culture, the cuisine, and yes, even the people. What followed was a whirlwind journey: a stint at the British Consulate in Lille, then a leap into the world of French banking at what was then Abbey National France. From telesales to leading the international buyers division, I was hopping around France, helping Brits secure mortgages during the golden age of European interest rates. Life was good… until it wasn’t. Bank sales, due diligence delays, and daily déjà vu convinced me it was time to pack up and travel the world – Trans-Siberian trains, Southeast Asia, South America… you name it. But then came the call. My dad, ill and needing help, asked me to take a look at a small private post office business he’d set up back in Kent. Cue culture whiplash: I went from the sensory overload of Mumbai to the pristine hedgerows of Kings Hill. It was a crash course in small business survival – I poured in my savings, learned everything the hard way, and yes, I lost the lot. But in the embers of that “baptism by fire,” something sparked. I noticed a steady stream of home-based businesses walking into the post office, bags in hand, desperate for a fulfilment partner who *got* them. The big players wouldn’t touch them, but I saw gold in their grit. When the private post office closed, I set up Order Fulfilment Experts – and we’ve been thriving ever since. We started by serving home-based sellers and nomadic capitalists. Now, we’re increasingly the secret weapon for premises-based businesses slashing overheads by ditching their warehouses and outsourcing fulfilment to us. We give our clients agility, scalability, and a whole lot more sleep at night. The early years were also the baby years – I had two boys (now 8 and 10), and I’d be lying if I said the business wasn’t a lifestyle gig at first. But things have changed. We’re now a full-throttle fulfilment partner – serious about service, obsessed with excellence, and proudly gunning for the top spot in our niche.
