CWS Logistics Ltd

Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

It was 1997 when CWS Logistics Ltd. began as a warehouse and packaging facility focusing on the distribution of crop protection products and seed in Western Canada. We started in Regina, Saskatchewan, and from there delivered excellent customer service and dependability. Our warehouse space doubled in 1998 to better accommodate our growing client base. We continued to grow adding AWSA warehouses in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. It was at this time that we added a fertilizer trans-load facility in Belle Plaine Saskatchewan. In 2003 the CWS head office was established in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our trailer fleet expanded to include Tridem dry vans, and by 2005 we had over 100 trailers in our fleet. It was at this time that we began operating our first turnpike trailer configuration between Regina and Winnipeg. In 2006, CWS purchased a new warehouse and packaging facility in Regina. We had now survived and flourished for ten years of operation. In 2011, CWS completed construction of a brand new facility in Saskatoon. Our footprint grew again in 2013 with the purchase of an additional facility in Winnipeg and a new warehouse space in Calgary. 2013 proved to be a busy year as we completed our state of the art packaging facility and warehouse in Regina. As an organization, CWS Logistics now exceeds 800,000 ft² of operational space and operates 75 highway tractors and 200 trailers. As an established yet ever-growing company, CWS provides complete logistical services to multi-national, publicly traded and privately held companies. We are proud to say that we are the largest privately held, asset based 3PL in Western Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

Prioritize carrier connectivity (highway, rail, LTL access), facility capabilities (racked storage, temperature control, cross-dock), IT integration (WMS/API for order routing), labor skillset, and cost-to-serve visibility. Also assess SLA performance, peak season scalability, and value-add services like kitting and returns management to match omnichannel requirements.

Lower occupancy and regional wage rates compared with coastal metros can reduce per-unit storage and handling costs. Evaluate total landed cost including inbound frequency, last-mile distances, and throughput density; Williston’s cost profile often improves margin when volumes support fewer, larger replenishments and optimized carrier routing.

Negotiate clear KPIs for on-time shipping, order accuracy, dock-to-ship cycle time, inventory accuracy, and chargeback thresholds. Include SLA bandwidth for peak volume, defined lead times for replenishment, and penalties/credits for missed SLAs to ensure alignment across B2B and eCommerce fulfillment workflows.

Assess availability and frequency of regional trucking lanes, proximity to intermodal rail terminals, LTL consolidation options, and access to expedited carriers. Consider transit time variability, backhaul opportunities, and seasonal constraints that affect service reliability from a Williston distribution point.

Plan scalable footprint and staffing models, confirm flexible slotting and overflow arrangements, and ensure the 3PL offers surge labor, temporary racking, and advanced WMS features for slot optimization. Use segmented inventory strategies and data-driven forecasting to reduce storage costs and maintain service levels during SKU growth and seasonal demand.
