Ensure the 3PL supports multi-channel order routing and cross-docking to minimize handling and transit time.

Expect line items for storage (per pallet or cubic), receiving and putaway, pick-and-pack, outbound handling, returns processing, and accessorials (shuttle, detention, special handling). Negotiate clear SLAs, volume tiers, chargeback terms, notice periods for rate changes, and liability/insurance limits to control variability.

Require WMS integration for real-time inventory visibility, routine cycle counts, KPI reporting (inventory accuracy, pick error rate), documented RMA and returns workflows, and defined reconciliation timelines. Consider periodic audits and a joint improvement plan to address discrepancies and reduce return processing time.
