TKL’s history is closely related to the Austrian ice-cream and frozen food market’s establishment and development and dates back until 1927 when Miag launched the first ice lolly under the “Eskimo” brand. In 1941, Hans Petter started to research on producing deep frozen foods in Raasdorf near Vienna. Unilever entered into the ice-cream and frozen food market in 1960, took over both companies and developed the “Iglo”-brand in 1961. In further consequence, Unilever acquired Hans Petter’s frozen food business and established the first combined production facility for ice-cream and frozen food in 1963 in Groß-Enzersdorf. In 1993, the Unilever-Group eventually established Eskimo-Iglo Tiefkühllogistik GmbH as direct predecessor of today’s TKL.
