The Kriegsman Transfer Company, one of five Foreign Trade Zone operators in the Peoria area, was established in 1913 by P.J. Kriegsman, an entrepreneur interested in transportation of goods. Beginning with only 32 horses, Kriegsman first hauled drayage and moved small household furniture and goods from their base on Broadway in Pekin. This early moving service blossomed into 40 years of service for the Mayflower trucking company. Since the warehouse moved to Koch Street in 1951, Kriegsman has expanded its service to include storage of seasonal and spare products for several area companies as well. The new facility covers 285,000 square feet.
