Established on March 27, 1969, the Benin Port Handling Company ( SOBEMAP ) is a commercial enterprise whose purpose is to carry out handling operations, act as a licensed customs broker, and engage in all related activities at the port of Cotonou. It is worth noting that SOBEMAP embarked on a policy of diversifying its activities in anticipation of the liberalization of the port handling sector. Thus, since 1997, it has been handling customs declaration and goods removal operations at both the port and the airport, both for its own account and for third parties. SOBEMAP also received approval to operate as a maritime shipping agent in December 2002. Its first vessel docked in the port of Cotonou on June 4, 2003. Today, with over 40 years of experience and expertise, the company provides comprehensive services in port handling, consignment, and port & airport transit. SOBEMAP boasts modern equipment, port storage areas, and warehouses, enabling it to handle goods and storage operations for third parties. Its equipment is adapted to technological advancements, and it has extensive storage infrastructure, a fleet of modern machinery dedicated to each operation, and a robust, modern information system to better serve its clients.
