Proximity to primary roads and port feeders reduces linehaul costs and narrows delivery windows; limited carrier options can increase premiums for expedited services. Analyze historical transit times, consolidation opportunities, and carrier on-time performance data.

Look for a modern WMS with lot/serial tracking, real-time API/EDI order and inventory feeds, automated receiving and cycle-count processes, dashboard reporting for OTIF and inventory accuracy, and exception workflows for reconciliations and chargebacks.

Build a total landed-cost model that includes occupancy, per-pick and handling, labor, transportation to end markets, duties/bonded fees, and inventory carrying costs.
