Prioritize carrier connectivity and transit time reductions; real-time WMS/API integration for inventory visibility; SLA metrics for order accuracy, OTIF and returns; scalable labor and racking infrastructure; and transparent cost modeling including storage, pick/pack, and cross-dock fees.

Proximity to major highways, rail spurs, and air cargo nodes lowers linehaul and last-mile expense, shortens transit windows, and enables mixed-mode routing. Closer carrier access reduces LTL consolidation costs and improves schedule reliability, directly lowering landed costs and improving delivery SLAs.

Evaluate WMS with real-time inventory and EDI/API connectivity, barcode scanning and directed picking, cartonization and sortation, kitting and light assembly, returns processing workflows, temperature control where required, and labor management systems to handle peak throughput.

Include clear SLAs for order accuracy, OTIF, and inventory accuracy; defined chargebacks and dispute resolution; indexing and notice periods for pricing changes; data access and reporting cadence; insurance/indemnity clauses; and termination and transition terms to protect continuity.

Assess the 3PL's customs and bonded facility experience, export documentation processes, carrier contracts for international lanes, network partnerships for last-mile in target markets, IT interoperability for multi-country order routing, and track record running proof-of-concept pilots for cross-border flows.
